Gregory C. Harrell

Gregory C. Harrell has served as the Clerk of Court and Comptroller for Marion County since January 5, 2021. He sees the Clerk’s main role as being the independently elected keeper and protector of the County’s records and finances.

Mr. Harrell, who grew up in Ocala and is a third-generation resident of Marion County, graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Virginia, and was awarded a one-year teaching fellowship at Millfield School in England, before attending and earning his Juris Doctor from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law, where he was a member of the Florida Law Review. Mr. Harrell practiced law in the private sector in Tallahassee, Miami, and Ocala before becoming General Counsel to the Clerk’s Office in 2013.

Mr. Harrell is a member of the Florida Court Clerks and Comptroller’s (FCCC) statewide Executive Committee and presently serves as its Vice President. He is also the Chair of FCCC’s Comprehensive Case Information System (CCIS) Special Committee, Vice Chair of its Strategic Planning Committee, and a member of its Budget and Finance, Legislative, Court Operations/Rules Review, and Strategic Technology Committees and its Conference Subcommittee. Mr. Harrell was awarded FCCC’s Legislative Collaboration Award in 2022 and its Key Contributor Award in 2023. He also serves on the Judicial Management Council’s Workgroup on Uncontested Probate Proceedings.

Locally, Mr. Harrell is the Senior Warden for Grace Episcopal Church of Ocala, a member of the Board of Directors for the Ocala/Marion County Chamber & Economic Partnership (CEP), a District Committee member for the Boys Scouts of America, North Florida Council, West District, and a Troop Committee member for Troop 72 Ocala. In 2021, he was the Honoree for the North Florida Council’s annual Marion County American Values Dinner.

Mr. Harrell has served as President of the Marion County Bar Association, Chair of the Board of Directors for the United Way of Marion County, Vice President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Marion County, Chair of The Florida Bar’s Grievance Committee for the Fifth Judicial Circuit, Board Member for the Public Education Foundation of Marion County, Board Member for the Munroe Regional Medical Center Foundation, Executive Committee Member for the UF Law Alumni Council, as a member of FCCC’s Best Practices Workgroup, Rule 2.420 Quick Response Teams, and Legal Panel, and as Cubmaster and Den Leader for Cub Scout Pack 194 Ocala. He is also a graduate of Leadership Ocala/Marion (Class XXXI) and Leadership Ocala Youth (Class I).

Mr. Harrell lives in Ocala with his wife, Stephanie, a local pediatrician, their son, Walker, and their daughter, Shealy Grace.
