David Cook Press Release
David R. Ellspermann, Marion County Clerk of the Court and Comptroller, is proud to announce the launch of a digital archive of the work of Marion County journalist and historian David Cook. Cook is a journalist, editor, and historian who retired from the Ocala Star Banner in 1995.
"I believe preservation of Marion County History is an important part of who I am as it is part of our responsibilities at the Clerk of the Court and Comptroller’s Office. We all strive to move forward and this is made easier when you understand the past and remember its importance. David Cook’s life works in newspaper reporting and documentation of Marion County’s history will provide everyone an opportunity to learn more about our great County." - David R. Ellspermann
The Clerk’s office received six file cabinets containing the totality of Mr. Cook’s collected work for writing as well as research material. We sorted this into his hand typed articles, published newspaper clippings, research material folders, and finally his large volume of photos. The Clerk’s website will feature a connected experience for the user that they will control. This will allow users with differing focuses to find what they are looking for in an organized way. The user can search by year, word, or title which will provide a unique and accurate experience. The website will provide multiple searchable capabilities within one search engine designed to support the needs of historians, journalists, college students, and more.
The Clerk of Court and Comptroller thanks Mr. Cook for sharing his legacy and allowing us to provide such a great resource to others.
